How to install today’s update of Words With Friends Android
Update: you won’t lose your games when you uninstall as they are saved on our server.
Hey folks, we’re proud to offer you the latest update, which adds a lot of good stuff under the hood for a smoother game experience.
HOWEVER: to get the most out of this update, you need to uninstall the current version first.
If you’re unfamiliar with how to do that, see below for a quick guide. If you know your way around Android and have already uninstalled it, go get the app now!
Finally, stay tuned for two new versions of Words Android coming soon: an ad-free version and a Honeycomb/tablet optimized version!
Uninstalling Words With Friends
Go to your device’s settings:
Tap on Applications.
Then tap Manage Applications.
Select Words Free.
Tap uninstall.
Tap OK.
Tap OK again.
Now you’re ready to install the new update! Go get it now!

Reinstall with the SAME email address that you originally logged in with and your UN and games will come back. Your email addy is your ID in WWF. Games are stored on WWF servers, not on your phone.

I was reading comments about the updates. Tons of ppl having problems after the update. Only allowing 10 games… bringing up old games and they can’t delete. Wondering if this is the same for others before I update…

I uninstalled the old version and installed the new version. The update has not fixed the problem I have with blank tiles. I get a Force Close when I either play the tile or try to exchange it. Please, please fix this!
P.S. All of my existing games came back after the update. All game data is stored on the servers.

I had 4 games say that I lost when I was clearly ahead. The first one that did that it had just started and I never got to play. The other 3, we were in the middle of our games. I also have another game that is in the MY TURN area, but it shows that it’s my opponents turn. She says she already played, but I don’t have the update to that game. I can’t even delete all my old games. Do they just fall of eventually?

well, now i find out about the first step to uninstall before install. on the android app market it just indicated an update was available, so i dd it. now i have old games that were finished in the active window. crap.

FYI – installed this at 1:35 PM EST today and lost 5 games. It kept four of my 9, but the other 5 says the person ‘beat you’ and the icon is a Red Tile with a “NO” sign through it – like “No Smoking”.
So, you possibly will lose some games.

@Amanda and all: You can delete finished games by swiping over the listed game with your finger from left to right. Then you will see a red box with “delete”, well I can do it on my T-mobile G2 and ipod touch. With the reinstall of the app the games i deleted were back on the list. I do know that when i installed WWF on android the first time it didn’t list all the games i played, listed abt 5, like my ipod lists all the games, no biggie for me.

Very disappointed. My app is worse than before I updates!!!!!!! Says I lost games that I was playing and brought old chats up like they were new in finished games. I thought the update was supposed to fix issues not exacerbate them!

Probably my favorite game. But also probably the worst app/software/whatever you call it….ever. games disappear, force closes pretty regularly, doesn’t update itself. Needs options, menu, anything.

Well so far it is worse than before update. I lost games then they showed back up. Then I had closed games come back. Now I am unable to play it says unable to connect with server so I am hopeful that now that I have reset my battery it will allow me to play….

I have uninstalled the old app and downloaded the new updated app to my my touch 4g and the old games that i am no longer playing continue to pop up in my current feed after I have deleted them several times. I have deleted the app and reinstalled it several times and cleared the cache ant this problem continues to persist. This is very frustrating please correct this problem within a timely manner.

Alerts. Please, I beg of you, alerts. Or as a fall back, at least allow my phone to chirp or vibrate when it checks the server and it is my turn. It is killing me to have to remember to check.

1. Finished games appear in the “their move” section. While brushing your finger over the game brings up a red box with the word “delete” in it in the “finished games” section, that is not the case in the “their move” section.
2. What was the point of this update? It should be classified as a “down”date.

I had words with friends on my itouch. Trying to put it on my EVO. Everytime I put in my email,it asks for my password. I put that in and it says it isn’t correct. What do I do to play my first game? It is still on the itouch – do I need to delete that acct?

I would recommend NOT updating. I can’t open more than 10 games. I had about 8 games corrupt and I have a TON of games in the ‘their turn’ category that ended long ago and can’t be deleted! I’ve uninstalled correctly and then reinstalled. Logged out multiple times. Not happy!

I at first just installed as update and had lots of bugs. I then followed instructions and completely uninstalled the app from my evo and reinstalled from app market and works ok. Signed back on and all of my games (old and new) appeared. Had to delete old ones (hold finger on game wanting to delete and red delete button appears) Now works. Only dislike is now video ads start playing on their I own. Wish it was the old way. Could also use the ability to select a noise and sound for the notification bar.

Have all the problem and didn’t download new ap. Keep having start new games and not able to get into the old ones and they are all there making it hard to find the game you are in not able to delate the games

Old completed games are showing up in my Android HTC Desire as games where I’m waiting on my opponent to move. The old method of deleting them (long press and then the little red delete button) doesn’t work anymore. I can’t get rid of old games!

Wow! The update is TERRIBLE … just when I was playing with ease on my Droid X, I uninstalled to get the ‘latest’ version and it sucks! The chat sessions are the hang up, if u chatted previously on a game that had ended but still were just chatting, those are the games that are stuck under ur move and cannot be deleted. Fortunately I got all 16 of my games back that I was playing, but the unwanted finished games are irritating! Please fix this, or revert back prior to the update.

Lost games after the update, can you fix it so when our games are lost we don’t have to keep deleting and reinstalling app to get them back off the server? I’ve reinstalled so many times I.d hate to see my download usage this month.

I had to re install 3 times because it kept saying I lost the game to opponents while I was in the lead. So yes you might forfeit your games like I did because of the update’s fault.

Is the ad free paid for version going to be w/o all these annoying bugs? Still have games that were force ended that won’t go away and since there is a bug only allowing 10 games at a time, I only have about 5 actual games going. Why can they get this shit right for iPhone but not Android? So frustrating.

Ok I am fairly new to this game but so addicted.. I ready ask of the reviews and have some of the same problems. I use the Droid pro… and my contact list doesn’t show. Up. How I fix this that?.. and I agree this thing needs notifications. I have to keep checking. To see if its my turn.. and how do you delete games!?!?! Can’t resign!!

Game was awesome prior to update. Now I have constant force closes, constant logging out because of “an issue with the update”, all of my deleted games returned to my active “there turn”. Don’t like this update! TERRIBLE! HTC Evo 4g.

The update put up all my old games and wouldn’t let me delete them I uninstalled and reinstalled and it was fixed. Then you ran and auto update to address the issues and not only did the old games come back again but now its my move but it doesn’t know who with. You guys are top notch with updates. How bout you test the shit before you send it. Twice!

I started a game in error … there is no one one the other end of it so for the last 4 days it’s just been sitting there … I tried to resign but it won’t let me … tried to delete but it won’t let me do that either?

Wish I wouldn’t have updated. Brought back several old games, as if they are still active. Can’t delete them. Only option is to select re-match. Terrible. May uninstall and switch to another game. Very disappointed, as I was considering upgrading, but my friends have reported problems with that too.

Omg this is the worst update ever….I cant even wrote my comments, took me a while to be able to write this. All my old game came back I have a list of 20 something game all off them old and can’t deleted them you guys should test this before. Preferred my good old words with friend, RECOMMEND TO IMPROVE THIS AWFUL UPDATE OR LET’S GET BACK TO THE OLDER VERSION.

Update went through fine. Uninstalled first, then reinstalled from market.
Hard to notice changes, must all be under the good.
All old completed games showed after using same email.
All current playing also restored properly.

This new update is ridiculous… It force closes in the middle of my games, it brought back all my old games which I can’t delete and its saying my opponent beat me when the game isn’t even finish…wth!!! You idiots. Save some time! When you update an app it automatically gets uninstalled and then really installed. As for force close, you other idiots need to uninstall all the third party apps you have ok?

To add my voice to the cacophany.. this is the worst piece of software i’ve ever dealt with on android. It looks so pretty and works well on iphones apparently but it’s so badly developed. I lost all my games after the new update, had trouble uninstalling again, just unbelievably crap piece of software. The only redeeming feature is that it has a big iphone fanbase. Wordfeud is so much better.

For those with returning finished games that show up in their move I did to but I had ap set for auto update n did not uninstall either follow directions here or uninstall from task manager not from marketplace I did that n so far things r work n more smoothly as well a all finished games moved back to finished section m all messed up games reappeared in stable condition

Had one lost game (the red “do not” sign) before uninstall/update. After uninstalling/updating, that one game came back, but I lost three current games. Not a good trade off. Horribly bugged app before and after update. Back to Wordfeud for me.

For those of you on android and old games come back, hit your settings button, go to manage apparel. Click words with friends and then clear cache and data. You will have to I put your small address again but the old games will be gone and not be not deleteable.

Lost almost all my current games. I tried uninstalling and downloading app again a few times and it didn’t help. Also I keep getting notifications saying I have a turn when I don’t and it fore closes on me a lot. Update is horrible I wish I hadn’t even done it, Id still have the same problems I do now except I wouldn’t have lost my current games.

Yes, I too lost some of my games. I was very annoyed as I was winning in a few of them. Am now having more force closes than before, and was having trouble even logging in just now. I know from experience that zynga are far from perfect, but they do put out some fab games. Please fix as I love this game.

Man the response times from your helpdesk are way too long. I have been fighting with getting my password reset for almost 3 hours and have waited over an hour for someone to pickup my support ticket. this wouldn’t have happened if your update didnt require uninstall/reinstall, it’s almost like a Windows app. Can someone from Zynga chime in and give me a hand?

So I downloaded the update and now my old games are back and I can’t delete them, and the game keeps telling me there was an error and it needs to be restarted. So it shuts down ever few seconds and I have to restart.

I love playing the game, but I wished I had read all of this before updating as well as everyone else had stated….. Everything that all other users have typed is happening to me. Old games showing up, Games posted in my move & it’s not my move at all, which causes my notification to show up & I can’t do anything, not even resign!!! Please read these comments and fix these problems, I’d rather deal with the stupid adds then this monstrosity of annoyances!!! Allow the old game to be reloaded………

Since the upgrade, the app is telling me to login. When I type in the email address, it doesn’t recognize me. The app is trying to make sign up again. Trouble shooting does not work. I enter my username and password, I’m told it doesn’t recognize the password. What is going????

once you uninstall the words woth friends app then go to the market and install it again the updated version allows you to delete old games. You just press and hold down the game you want to delete. Dont just click on the update it causes a ton of bugs. So just follow the direcrions to uninatall it then install it again.

The update is horrible! My games are all screwed up. Some came back that were ended, some say my opponent won and the last move was 4 days ago when we were just in the middle of the game yesterday. I can’t open up the chat on those games to see what friends have said. Its a huge mess…
